Pleasant experience here. The restaurant is run by Japanese people and the food is authentic. It has a very homely and quiet ambience. We loved the sukiyaki, great flavours and a bowl of hot soup won’t go wrong in winter. The food is as good as it can be with the ingredients available here so don’t come in with too high of an expectation but the flavours are definitely legit. Definitely a great place to try out! We managed to do a walk-in without reservation at 7pm.

It was our last day in Rome and we decided to visit this well reviewed Japanese restaurant. Each dish we ordered tasted absolutly wonderful and authentically. The lille Japanese garden is so nice, and the waitress was so friendly. We will definitely come back again on our next trip in Italy!

A lovely meal and was a pleasant break from Italian food! We were too hungry and did not take many pictures. The restaurant is run by Japanese people who are polite and friendly. The sashimi was so fresh that we made a repeat order!! Felt a bit like Japanese style home cooking. Comfort food. Do not expect fine dining. We ordered a seaweed salad, tempura, teriyaki chicken, teriyaki salmon, sukiyaki, eel sushi, fried pork cutlet (tonkatsu), grilled beef and had 3 beers. We got a bit greedy with the ordering and probably did not need 1-2 dishes. Highlights were the sashimi (simple choices but very fresh and done well), tempura had a very light batter, fresh salads and sukiyaki. Rice in the sushi was a bit too soft for our tastes. Our whole meal came up to EUR230 for 5 of us. Not cheap but we walked out happy

We are big fans of Japanese cuisine and this restaurant did not disappoint. From the delicious traditional dishes to the service, everything was perfect. The owner was really kind. We tried many different dishes, all delicious in particular the sukiyaki and the pork cutlets.

My family and I have always been to various Asian restaurants and have been rather ‘experienced’ with Japanese food in particular, and this has only heightened our expectations. We ordered quite a lot of food, and it was clear that every dish was fresh and delicious. The salmon teriyaki in particular was so good and flavourful! The lady serving us was so sweet and patient, and she took our order with care. The decoration of the restaurant is also very nice, and it’s as if you get transported in a different place entirely the moment you step in. Overall, it was a real pleasure to come here, and I’d gladly come again! :)

We had one of our best meal in Rome! We want to try some other cuisine besides Italian food, and we were amazed by their amazing and authentic Japanese food. The sashimi is fresh and delicious, the soba and the sukiyaki are so good… 10/10!

Nestled in the heart of Rome at Passeggiata di Ripetta, Ristorante Rokko offers a genuine taste of Japan far from its shores. This cozy, homely spot is run by Japanese owners who bring authenticity and warmth to every dish and interaction. From the moment you step inside, the quiet ambience and subtle decoration, complemented by a small Japanese garden, create an inviting escape that feels like a true culinary journey.

The highlight at Rokko is undeniably its sukiyaki—a rich, flavorful hot pot that comforts and satisfies, especially in colder months. The balance of tender beef, savory broth, and fresh vegetables speaks to the care invested in each ingredient. Alongside this, the sashimi stands out for its freshness; simple yet expertly prepared, it refreshes the palate with each bite. Tempura here features an exceptionally light batter that crisps perfectly without overpowering the delicate seafood and vegetables beneath.

Other standout dishes include the teriyaki salmon and chicken, which are robustly flavored but still true to their home-cooked roots, and the pork cutlets (tonkatsu), offering a satisfying crunch and juicy interior. Even the eel sushi delivers an authentic experience, although some might find the sushi rice a touch softer than expected. While the menu might not chase fine dining complexity, it delivers comfort food with genuine Japanese soul and integrity.

The service complements the meal impeccably—attentive, friendly, and patient, enhancing the relaxed yet special atmosphere. Diners often mention the owner’s kindness and the staff’s polite nature, which makes every visit feel personal and cared for.

Ristorante Rokko is the perfect spot for those craving authentic Japanese flavors amidst the vibrant Roman surroundings. It’s a place to savor carefully crafted dishes that balance tradition and freshness, served in an intimate setting that leaves you with a sense of warmth and satisfaction. Whether you’re a seasoned fan of Japanese cuisine or simply looking for a comforting break from Italian fare, Rokko promises a memorable dining experience worth returning to.
